Help us open up a world of imagination to the youth of the Grand Valley.

STUDENT THEATRE OUTREACH PROGRAM
The first phase of the Outreach program gives students of all financial backgrounds the opportunity to enjoy theatre. This program consist of a small group of adult performers who travel to schools in the Grand Valley to perform a short 30-40 minute comedy for the entire school at no charge. No charge to the students, no charge to the schools, and no charge to the district. Just a fun, live performance brought straight to them.

This program is expected to grow to include middle schools, high schools, and Saturday theatre camps provided in areas where extracurricular activities may be financially out of reach for most families.

Stages Youth Theatre Program FAQs

Steps to Broadway Levels are based on the student’s age and theatre experience.

Level 1: Little Steps to Broadway

Students aged 6 – 8 years

Often combined with Level 2. All students who sign up will receive a part in the show.

Production Fee:  $120 (unless combined with Level 2)

Level 2: Broadway Juniors

Students aged 8 – 14 years (varies according to show)

Production Fee: $140

Students will rehearse for 10-12 weeks and perform a full musical production at the conclusion. All students who sign up will receive a part in the show. Students will learn theatre basics including stage direction, projection, and the simple act of being comfortable on stage in front of an audience. Most importantly, they will learn to experience theatre in a safe and fun environment with new friends.

Level 3: Broadway Bound

Students aged 12+ and by audition only

Production Fee: $190

Advanced students will have the opportunity to audition for a musical production that will rehearse twice a week for 12 weeks. Not all students who audition will be cast, depending on the show. Oftentimes, smaller class size allows for more intense and individualized training. Students will work on more demanding vocal training, character development, and working together as a team to put together a high-quality student musical production at the conclusion.

Production fees include students’ scripts, classes/rehearsals, and costume rental. Tickets for performance are not included.

These fees help to cover the cost of:

  • Rights and royalties for the show, which average around $2,000
  • Performance space rental, which averages around $1,000 – $3,000/day
  • Materials for costumes, props, and set pieces

Stages Level 2

All students who sign up will receive a part in the show. Auditions are held for students ages 8-18 on the first day to allow staff to make a decision on the best placement of each student. Students are not required to prepare anything for auditions. Students ages 5-7 do not need to attend this first rehearsal.

Stages Level 3

This production is by audition only; not all students who audition will be cast. Students are encouraged to prepare a song and/or monologue for their audition. Specific audition requirements may vary depending on the show.

No. Parents are not allowed in rehearsals but are more than welcome to watch from the windows. This is to reduce distractions and due to limited space.

May vary by show. See audition info for updated information.

Stages Level 2

This level rehearses once a week for ages 8-18, and possibly twice for leads. Sometimes, this level will be combined with level one or three depending on the show, so ages and rehearsal days will vary based on that.

All rehearsals take place at the Creative Avenues Complex (835 N 26th St, Grand Junction).

Stages Level 3

This level rehearses twice a week. Rehearsal schedule will be discussed at auditions and/or when the cast list is announced. Rehearsals take place at the Creative Avenues Complex.
