Taught by Olivia Burr
Acting Technique Through Improv is a dynamic, high-energy class designed to help performers build strong foundational acting skills through the freedom and creativity of improvisation.
Led by Olivia Burr, this class uses structured improv exercises to develop essential actor tools including focus, listening, emotional authenticity, character development, physical expression, and ensemble collaboration. Students learn how to think on their feet while staying grounded in truthful performance.
Improvisation removes the pressure of memorized lines and instead sharpens the instincts every great actor needs — presence, responsiveness, and confidence. Through scene work, theatre games, and guided technique exercises, students will strengthen their ability to make bold choices, commit fully to characters, and trust their creative impulses.
Whether students are preparing for auditions, looking to deepen their craft, or simply wanting to become more confident performers, this class provides a supportive environment where risk-taking is encouraged and growth is celebrated.
No prior improv experience required — just a willingness to play. Classes begin Monday, March 2nd from 7-8. Tuition for this 5 week session is $50.
Olivia Burr has studied with Cody Dorkin and Celik Kayalar in the Bay Area and before that, Paul Tinder and Vaughn Taylor in San Antonio, TX. Her high school summers were spent with Bryson Alejandro and Kenny Baldwin at the BYU Sketch Comedy Workshop. While studying for her undergraduate degree in Communications, she was a multi-year member of the Humor Code, the official sketch comedy club of BYUI.
