School Outreach Program

Bringing the Magic of Live Theatre to Your School

The Theatre Project’s School Outreach Program brings engaging, interactive live theatre directly to local schools—at no cost to the school. As part of our nonprofit mission, we believe every child should have the opportunity to experience the wonder of live performance, regardless of financial circumstances.

Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we are able to provide these performances free of charge, creating memorable arts experiences that inspire imagination, encourage participation, and foster a lifelong appreciation for theatre.

Interactive Theatre That Inspires

Our outreach performances are designed especially for elementary-aged audiences and invite students to become active participants in the story. Rather than simply watching from their seats, children help bring the adventure to life through audience participation, creating an exciting, shared theatrical experience.

Each performance is approximately 30 minutes long, making it an ideal fit within the school day while leaving students eager to continue talking about the story afterward.

This Year’s Production: The Wizard of Oz

This year, students will journey down the Yellow Brick Road with Dorothy, Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion in an interactive adaptation of the beloved classic.

With plenty of opportunities for audience participation, students become part of the adventure as they help the characters overcome obstacles and discover timeless lessons about courage, friendship, kindness, and believing in themselves.

Last Year’s Success: Alice in Wonderland

Our inaugural School Outreach production, an interactive adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, was enthusiastically received by students and educators alike. Young audiences embraced the opportunity to help guide Alice through Wonderland, and teachers shared how engaged their students remained long after the performance ended.

The success of Alice in Wonderland inspired us to continue growing the program and developing a new interactive production each school year.

Extending the Experience Beyond the Performance

Every outreach visit includes a companion activity booklet designed to reinforce the experience back in the classroom. Filled with coloring pages, activities, and creative exercises inspired by the production, the booklet gives students another opportunity to connect with the story while providing teachers with simple, engaging follow-up activities.

Our goal is for the performance to become more than a one-time event—it becomes the beginning of conversations, creativity, and continued learning.

Educational Benefits

Live theatre helps students:

  • Develop imagination and creative thinking
  • Strengthen listening and communication skills
  • Build confidence through participation
  • Experience classic literature in a memorable way
  • Explore themes of character, empathy, courage, and teamwork
  • Discover the excitement of the performing arts

By combining storytelling, audience participation, and educational activities, our School Outreach Program creates experiences that are both entertaining and meaningful.

Offered Free to Local Schools

The Theatre Project is proud to offer our School Outreach Program free of charge to schools as part of our commitment to making the performing arts accessible to every child in our community.

This program is made possible through the generosity of individual donors, community partners, and supporters who believe that every student deserves the opportunity to experience live theatre.

If you would like to help bring future productions to even more schools, we invite you to support The Theatre Project through a tax-deductible donation.
